The Netherlands is a country traditionally associated with, (and this is from literally the first sentence of its Wikipedia page), “[a] flat landscape, canals, tulip fields, windmills and cycling routes.” It is therefore not home to many howling supercars that look like they want to slowly eat you alive.

This is the Savage Rivale Roadyacht GTS (great name, right?), perhaps the greatest of what I like to call “outer market” cars. They’re cars made by fringe manufacturers without a major pedigree and a small number of models - think Zenos, Zenvo, Rezvani, basically anyone with a Z in their name. It also has a 670 hp V8. And four doors. And a convertible top. And, in most cases, I’m sure, a very rich person grinning like an idiot at the wheel.

Let me start with the looks, which can be summed up in one word: wow.

Look at this thing. It all comes together so beautifully, even though it’s probably not a conventionally beautiful thing, that there isn’t really a bad spot on it. It looks like a lot of other cars, but like they decided to take all the best bits from them and glom them onto a four-seater convertible GT car. Yes. This angular, beautiful whale has four seats and the coolest convertible top in automotive history.

Despite only being rear-wheel-drive, and being able to cart around four people in open-top luxury, this 670-hp V8 tank will do 0-60 in 3.4 seconds and on to a top speed of 205 mph . Forget convertible Bentleys, we’re deep into Ferrari territory here. It also makes a fantastic noise.

The interior, for a car like this, is actually quite restrained. You can easily tell it was inspired by a yacht, given that yachts also have seats and a steering wheel. The company has also expressly stated it was inspired by yachts.

There are a couple shiny bits here and there, and the back seat passengers get their own screen (on the console, strangely, instead of two in the headrests), and what appear to be buttons from a PlayStation controller on the headliner, but there’s little we haven’t seen before. Although - did I mention the doors? Yeah, they’re pretty damn nuts. It even has leather under the doors. 90% of the time you won’t even see that.

In short, I want one. Very badly. Certainly more than I want a Zenvo or a Zenos or a Zoobleboop. Problem is, it costs over $500,000 and they only made twenty (not counting the two GTR versions, which have stripped interiors and lots of stickers and a stupid wing to add more downforces). But how could you not want one of these? It’s stupid, it’s beautiful, it’s unnecessary, and I love it.

I would also like to thank the criminally underrated Driveclub for alerting me to the existence of this angular unicorn.

Those are probably my favorite doors of all time. They actually make a lot of sense because it allows for the rear doors to give much more space for getting in than if they were conventionally hinged while still keeping that lovely character line.

As a lover of cars from the 30's, I’ve always wanted fast, beautiful, expensive and luxurious four-door convertibles to make a comeback. Until now I’ve had to settle for the Bentley Brooklands, Rolls-Royce Dawn/Drophead, and S-Class Cabrio. But this thing. This thing is glorious.

All hail the mighty Roadyacht!

I’m a massive fan of the S-Class Cabrio, but that’s about it out of those three. This thing is indeed glorious.

I’ve always hated it. Too big and garish. But maybe you’re right, it’s special. I’m still unsure.
